![]() ![]() ![]() Social constructionism: this is a bit trickier to separate from the rest because it can actually operate at micro or macro levels (some people will argue this lol), but with social constructionism, they usually have some key phrases/ideas. They didn't interact correctly that is, they didn't interact with the 'right symbols,' which can piss people off. So usually when it's about a doctor or patient being slighted (because they didn't shake hands or because they were quiet, etc.), it will be symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionism: this, unlike functionalism, is really about micro-level things. I really think the best way to approach for functionalism is if its describing a macro-level process or a micro-level process. The latter stuff I am sure you know, but I just wanted to get them out there. Next focus on a few of its key characteristics: things are in equilibrium, equilibrium can be perturbed by social deviance (aka things out of the ordinary, which makes sense), things are necessary and need based, and things have manifest (intended) or latent (unintended functions). can immediately negate/cross out functionalism. Anything to do with interactions between people, descriptions of behavior at that level, etc. Anything to do with allocation of resources, maintenance of power, social stratification, and you know it's conflict theory.įunctionalism: This is tougher, but the best thing I realized for this is that functionalism is a macro-level theory. Tl dr: If it is really emphasizing resources/power/money, then conflict if it is emphasizing a macro-level phenomenon, then functionalism if it is emphasizing a micro level phenomenon/interaction, then symbolic interactionism if it is about creating meaning OR one answer avoids universals, then social constructionism.Ĭonflict theory: This is the easiest one in my opinion because it's so specific and different than the rest. /r/GAMSAT - Australian & UK Medical school Admission Test.P/S = Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior ![]() (Tentative) AAMC Sample FL Score ConversionĬ/P = Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological SystemsĬARS = Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skillsī/B = Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems # Correct -> Scaled Score Converter for AAMC Material These posts will be removed and the user banned without warning, subject to the discretion of the mod team Learn MoreĪll of the above rules are subject to moderator discretion High Yield MCAT Links You have signed an examinee agreement, and it will be enforced on this subreddit.ĭo not intentionally advertise paid or free products or services of any sort.
